There’s something different about the Geechie Boy Farm. It feels homegrown, historic and special. It’s a family operation without all the commercial bells and whistles. Greg and Betsy Johnsman have a passion for the land and for their products. Their expertise is evident in every bag of grits and in every crop of heirloom vegetables.

The Johnsmans supply markets and restaurants in Charleston and around the country with their heirloom crops and small batch grits ground in historic mills right on the farm.

In addition to the grits, 3 acres located next to the market is filled with heirloom vegetables from colorful cauliflower to Edisto sweet onions. The market is full of seasonal vegetables and keepsakes from yesteryear farming.

The farm is home to four working mills, including a 1945 model on display in the on-site market and an 1847 mill, one of the earliest American-made mills. Every week the mills are thumping as they turn corn into grits, flour and cornmeal. The products are shipped around the country to individuals and restaurants from Maine and New York to California and Colorado.
